🗺️ Your Brain Loves a Map (Not a Memo)
Last time we talked about how external tools help you think better. Now, let’s go deeper...
Brains like paths. Not bullet points.
Before we had apps and docs, we had landscapes.
Our brains evolved to navigate space — not spreadsheets. So when we map ideas out spatially, we’re tapping into our natural superpower. 💥
In The Extended Mind, Annie Murphy Paul says:
“We inherited a brain built to pick a path through a landscape and find the way back home.”
📍 Translation: If you want to remember something, put it on a map.
🧩 Try this: Start with a circle.
In a meeting and feeling the info tidal wave hit?
Grab a marker. Head to the whiteboard.
🟢 Draw a circle. Label it with the first word or idea that pops into your head.
🟡 Draw another. Label that.
🔗 Connect them. How are they related?
Repeat.
🎨 Add color where you want to highlight or emphasize.
Voilà — your thoughts are now in the real world, where they can actually help you.
It may feel messy. It may feel weird. That means it’s working.
You’re thinking with your tools — not just in your head.
And hey, mess is where the magic starts. ✨
Until next time,
– K.
